MEJIRO STATION SCHEDULE

MEJIRO STATION SCHEDULE

7:00 AM - 11:00 AM

This is the first shift of the day, so be prepared for a little bit of hustle and bustle. If you're an early bird who enjoys a buzzing atmosphere, join us at 7:00. You'll play a vital role in helping teams start their adventure.

9:15 AM - 1:15 PM

If you like to take your time to warm up in the mornings, this is the perfect shift for you. You'll be setting up the location with an IVG team member, and we predict that you'll be welcoming a steady stream of teams finishing. You'll also be asked to help the 11:00 AM volunteers get comfortable with their tasks.

12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

During this shift, our fastest teams will be finishing. If you prefer a more calm and chilled atmosphere, this is the perfect shift for you. You'll have plenty of downtime between finishing teams to meet and get to know other volunteers, and make new friends. Some of you may also need to show what needs to be done when the 3 pm volunteers start their shift.

11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

If you don't mind jumping right in, this is the shift for you. You'll be assisting the AM shift volunteers and the PM shift volunteers during the busiest time.

3:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Your shift will start off calm, giving you the opportunity to learn the ropes of your role. However, towards the second half of your shift, we expect a steady stream of teams to finish. If you have high energy and don't mind a bit of hustle and bustle, this is the perfect shift for you.

1:15 PM - 5:15 PM

You'll see a steady number of teams finishing at the beginning of your shift, and it will slow down as you approach the end. We would also be grateful for any help you could give with breaking down the venue.

4:30PM - 8:30PM

You’ll be thrown into the deep end. But don’t worry, you’ll have someone from the previous shift to show you how to help out. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and expect to hit your step count.

6:30 PM - 10:30 PM

You will be joining us during the peak hours of teams finishing their adventure. So if you're a quick learner and don't mind jumping in, this shift is perfect for you. Towards the end of the shift, it will quieten down with teams slowly trickling in. You will need to have lots of energy up until the very last team. Additionally, if possible, we would really appreciate any help with breaking down the venue.

I joined Yamathon in 2016 for the very first time, as I was asked to help the event as a one-day volunteer (just a couple days before the event!!). I had no idea about the event or what I was expected to do there, but I just jumped in and I thought I would just help the event only once. At the event, I helped tracking team goal records and worked closely with organisers all day, and I was so inspired and moved by not only the goals of the event, but also great passions and affectionate the organisers shared with me. Since then, I joined Yamathon as 1-day volunteer, organisers team, and as a participant every year. I remember that we spent many weekends and worked 2 or 3am on weekdays for Yamathon when I was in an organisers team. Although we were extremely busy and exhausted, the team was always thoughtful, cared and encouraged each other and this gave us great bond and made us “family”. I continuously join Yamathon because I really love and admire the people who are so dedicated and working unbelievably hard for this event. And Yamathon is a great opportunity to make someone happy while you enjoy meeting new people, building bond with your friends, and having fun.

In 2018, I joined the Yamathon as a volunteer. By joining as a staff, I experienced how hard it is to make the event exciting and also understood a little about how to work with adults in real society. I cheered and guided the finishing teams, announcing the rankings, and held the finish line tape. I really enjoyed the tasks so much and worked so hard that others became worried and forced me to take breaks. Through volunteer work, I became aware of what I could do for the society, what skills I could use, and understood that the adult society doesn’t work as I expected. I also realized how great Yamathon was. At the beginning, I was feeling negative about the whole event. I never understood why people enjoy walking around the Yamanote line. To me, they were just doing it to tire themselves out. However, I saw people in all teams showing happy faces when they finished walking. I also felt really happy and great that I had waited for my friends who were participating to finish. When I my friends reached Tokyo Station, I walked with them to the finishing point. There. I had a strange sense of feeling that was almost like a dream, but I can’t express more. I think everyone who joined Yamathon shared the similar sense of happiness.
