Last week was an unforgettable day for the students at a local high school, Kaetsu Ariake and the International Volunteer Group - Japan / Yamathon team.
Football legends Osvaldo Ardiles and Ledley King from Tottenham Hotspur paid a visit, bringing excitement and inspiration to the community.
The event started with Ardiles and King arriving at the high school to meet the football team. They briefly observed the team's practice before being taken on a tour of the school by a few team members.
The legends participated in a Q&A session where the students eagerly asked questions about their careers, challenges, and successes. Ardiles and King shared their experiences, offering invaluable advice and encouragement.
In the afternoon, an informal and heartwarming event was held where five players from Tottenham Spur met with families from the Yokohama Children's Hospice Project supported by the IVG -Japan Yamathon team. Shalmali, who served as the translator for the event, expressed the unique atmosphere, saying, "It felt amazing relaying the hospice’s story to the players who were so friendly and warm. Playing with the kids created a very positive atmosphere overall. The kids and players really warmed my heart and I felt really inspired to do more to help the community.
Zain, the media person for the event, shared his excitement and challenges: "Shooting events are always hard as you try to capture spontaneous moments without ruining them. It was amazing to see the players so relaxed and engaged with the kids. Even as a die-hard Man United fan, I will be hoping for Spurs to do well this season."
Aki, another translator, reflected on her experience: " It was difficult but rewarding. Seeing the players genuinely interact with the kids was heartwarming. Yuhei, a 10-year-old leukemia patient, had a moment with Archie that was very moving. This event made me feel so lucky and grateful."
The visit from Tottenham Spurs not only brought joy to the children and families but also highlighted the progress of the Hospice project supported by the Tokyo Yamathon event. "Having one of the top teams from the most-watched leagues willing to give their time is very inspiring," Zain added. "It shows how far the Hospice project has come and motivates us to continue supporting their dream."
This special day will be remembered by everyone involved, from the students and families to the legends themselves. The warmth, inspiration, and community spirit shared during the event were truly remarkable, leaving a lasting impact on all who participated.
