13 YEARS OF YAMATHON

1ST YAMATHON
Our inaugural event in November 2010 saw 110 people and 29 teams compete, using JR tickets as their starting and finishing times! With the help of our participants, we raised 129,000 JPY for Oxfam Japan’s Democratic Republic of Congo appeal.

2ND YAMATHON
In April 2011, 100 teams and 355 people came together and showed their community spirit in raising over 1 million JPY for Oxfam Japan’s Tohoku relief effort, for all those who suffered in the Great Eastern Japan earthquake on 11th March 2011.

3RD YAMATHON
The fun continued all the way into November 2011 as 86 teams and 318 people battled their way in the pouring rain, inspiring over 60 teams into finishing the event and raising over 600,000 JPY for Oxfam Japan’s East Africa appeal.

4TH YAMATHON
The Tokyo Yamathon in April 2012 saw beautiful blue skies dominate Tokyo’s skyline as 275 competitors of all ages came together and another 600,000 JPY was donated to Oxfam Japan’s Sahel appeal thanks to the efforts of our wonderful participants.

5TH YAMATHON
April 2013 saw 430 people hit the streets of Tokyo as they competed to walk around Tokyo’s JR Yamanote Line with their Yamathon map. 1.6 million yen was raised and 100% of funds went to Oxfam Japan’s Democratic Republic of Congo appeal.

6TH YAMATHON
We had a venue change in June 2014 – Tokyo International Forum. It paid off as 480 people and our wonderful sponsors helped to raise 2.6 million yen for Oxfam Japan. This money helped Syrians suffering in refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan.

7TH YAMATHON
Our SEVENTH Tokyo Yamathon took place on 30th May 2015. 800 people took part and raised 3 million yen for NADIA Japan. The money was used to build a children’s playground in Miyagi Prefecture for a community which was devastated by the March 2011 Tsunami.

8TH YAMATHON
1100 people came out to participate in our 8th Yamathon, raising 3.6 million for Plan International. 100% of all registration fees went to a safe school project in the Philippines, equipping classrooms with furniture together with toilets and handwashing facilities.

9TH YAMATHON
1,000 people participated in our 9th Yamathon in the cold rain. Thanks to everyone, we raised 5.1 million yen with our charity partners Plan International. Together, we built a computer facility for a secondary school in Sri-Lanka with the money we raised!

10TH YAMATHON
1000 participants helped to raise 4.1 million yen in our 10th Yamathon in May 2018. Thanks to your participation and fundraising, we helped build two classrooms for a school in Thuong Hoa commune in Vietnam and provided toilet facilities for students of the school.

11TH YAMATHON
In our 11th Yamathon, we decided to focus our fundraising back on Japan and partnered with NPO Yokohama Children’s Hospice Project to help build what will be the second children’s hospice in Japan. 1100 people participated, raising 3.8 million yen for the hospice.
